CVCS has partnered with Opportunity Schools and is now offering the Opportunity Program to help our students with learning challenges unlock their hidden potential and achieve academic success!

            Opportunity provides the following services:

  • Small group, researched-based multi-sensory instruction in reading, writing, spelling, handwriting and mathematics
  • Students receive mainstream support from the Opportunitystaff that may include pre-teaching, skill and concept reinforcement, and an appropriate accommodation plan
  • Academic assessments, interpretations, and recommendations
  • Professional training, consultation, and on-site support for the implementation of The Opportunity Program model
  • Referrals for school psychologists and speech & language therapists as needed
  • There is a fee for The Opportunity Program

Opportunity Program Services Fact Sheet

The Opportunity Program consists of small group, pull-out programs in Language Arts and Mathematics supported by mainstream classroom support for a fee. In addition to the Opportunity Program, Opportunity Schools can provide supplemental support services and consultation.

Opportunity Program Language Arts:   45-60 minutes @ least 4 days weekly
Opportunity Program teachers use multi-sensory, instructional approaches in small groups to teach Reading, Spelling, Writing and Handwriting skills.  The Slingerland Approach to Literacy and Lindamood Bell strategies are used to build important visual and auditory perceptual skills.  Students are systematically taught phoneme awareness, phonics skills, and reading and language arts comprehension.  These methods are used in conjunction with the mainstream reading curriculum.  Opportunityteachers also help students learn necessary skills they have not learned in mainstream classes.

Opportunity Program Mathematics:   45-60 minutes @ least 4 days weekly
Opportunity Program Mathematics is a small group, teacher-directed process that uses manipulative materials and student discovery to build a conceptual understanding of Mathematics.  Opportunityteachers help the student move from the concrete (manipulative materials to represent numbers or concepts) to the semi-abstract (drawings that represent numbers or concepts) to abstract (numerals to represent numbers or concepts).  The conceptual base is built with the goal of helping the student obtain skill mastery and mathematical understanding.  Math concepts and skills are coordinated with grade-level curriculum. 

Opportunity Program Mainstream Classroom Support:   Approx. 1-4 hrs per week
Opportunitystaff provides mainstream classroom support to help students succeed in classroom assignments, tests, and projects.  Students may be assisted in the mainstream class or pulled out for help.  Opportunityteachers assist mainstream teachers in making appropriate accommodations for the student.  Opportunity teachers serve as a liaison between the mainstream teacher, Opportunitymaster teacher (if applicable), school administrator, and the student’s parents to ensure cooperation and success.  The Opportunity teacher works with the mainstream teacher to support the implementation of the Instructional Accommodation Support Plan (ISAP).  This support may include mainstream Opportunity students who no longer need pull-out support but continue to need an ISAP.

OpportunityAcademic Coach Support:   As needed and available
Opportunity Academic Coaches provide classroom assistance during content area subjects such as Bible, Science and Social Studies.  Coaches help students complete classroom assignments and projects, prepare for tests and improve organizational skills.

Opportunity Program Professional Support Services:   As needed at additional cost
Opportunityhas a network of professionals who can provide special services on campus such as speech and language therapy, one-on-one tutoring, psychoeducational testing, behavior support, counseling, or social skills training on campus.
