Spalding Method

The Spalding Method® At A Glance

CVCS uses the Spalding Method for literacy instruction- The Spalding Method is a total language arts approach because it provides explicit, sequential, multisensory instruction in spelling (including phonics and handwriting), writing, and listening/reading comprehension. Spalding is a diagnostic method. That means assessment for learning is continuous so that instruction can be tailored to meet each child’s individual needs. Spalding is not a lock-step one-size-fits-all approach.

A Research Validated Total Language Arts Approach

Many parents are aware that their children are not learning to read. Puzzled and distraught, they want to know why, and what they can do. The Foreword to Romalda Spalding’s The Writing Road to Reading, provides answers to these questions. Written by Dr. S. Farnham-Diggory, former H. Rodney Sharp Professor of Educational Studies and Psychology at the University of Delaware, it provides historical context for the reading problem, exposes the mistaken assumptions behind a prevalent instructional theory, and explains why students succeed with The Spalding Method.

Spelling
  • phonemic awareness
  • phonics with handwriting
  • dictation of high frequency words
  • rule acquisition and application
Writing
  • simple, compound, complex sentences
  • narrative, informative, and informative-narrative paragraphs/passages
Comprehension
  • literary appreciation
  • passage structure
  • mental actions
The Spalding Method is effective for all students (General Education and Special Education.)

United States

It’s time once again to announce our annual SHINE dinner auction on March 31, 2012. This year we are excited to be holding the event at the historic Casino in San Clemente. This special event is an opportunity to help the school fund scholarship opportunities and to continue to upgrade and maintain the current CVCS facilities. With your participation, we are certain to make this a huge success.  Please join all of us to:

  • Pray for a successful evening!
  • Attend the auction and invite friends and family!
  • Donate to your classroom theme basket
  • Become a table underwriter
  • Advertise your business in our event program
  • Purchase a personal tribute in the event program
  • Seek family, friends, businesses and associates to fulfill our need for interesting and unique items to auction (such as vacation homes, special skills, etc.)

Please download the Donation letter and Donation Request form for your use.  Don’t be afraid to ask the businesses you patronize for a donation.

Many thanks for your continued support of our schools as we strive to grow and meet the needs of Orange County’s families through Educational Excellence in a Christ-Centered Environment.  Our prayer is to see CVCS thrive well into the future.
