Aug. 7, 2017: Capistrano Valley Christian Schools (CVCS) announces its newest addition to its athletic department with the hire of Marvin “Marv” Lim of Coto De Caza to lead the Girls Varsity Basketball program as Head Coach. His appointment signals the reinvigoration of the girls basketball program after a one-year hiatus. Lim’s basketball expertise and finesse is well-known in Orange County, including his founding of Monster Game Basketball Camps (MGB), and serving as head basketball coach at two other Orange County high schools, winning multiple league championships.
“Marv brings to CVCS a passion for teaching the game of basketball,” said Jeff Beeler, high school varsity coach and assistant athletic director. “He is a lifelong student of the game as well as possesses a high basketball IQ.”
Beeler adds that Lim’s unwavering Christian faith is at the forefront of everything he does. “We think that can have a great influence on the student-athletes.”
Lim’s duties will encompass daily operation of the girls basketball program, running all practices and coaching all games. His debut CVCS game will be Nov. 21 when the Eagles take on Orion International Academy at CVCS in San Juan Capistrano.
The veteran basketball coach previously served at Santa Margarita Catholic School and Mission Viejo High School. Through his MGB camps, girls leagues and club teams, he has trained over 500 athletes annually. With over 20 years of coaching experience and fundamental knowledge of basketball, Coach Lim said he “is confident with the guidance and blessing of our Lord” that the CVCS girls basketball program will be competitive for many years to come.
At the core of his philosophy is a faith-based attitude toward competition and sportsmanship; understanding the importance of teamwork; and instilling life lessons of confidence, responsibility, respect, and self-discipline.
In his spare time, Lim likes to sing worship songs, write poetry about the Lord, play guitar and go to the beach. He lives with his son Kevin, and two pet cats (Catniss and Hershey).
