New Head Basketball Coach Named
Former Eagle Takes Over Program In Hopes Of Rebuilding It
San Juan Capistrano, CA - Capistrano Valley Christian School Athletic Director Chris Fore is proud to announce that former CVCS Junior Varsity Basketball Coach Zachary Brogdon is our new Head Boys Varsity Basketball Coach. He was introduced to the team Monday, March 22.
Fore said about hiring Brogdon: “We received interest from about fifty different coaches for this position. All in all, there is not a doubt that Coach Brogdon was the absolute best fit for this job. His experience here as a player, and a coach in the past, was one of the key things that Zach brought to the table. He has a passion to teach teenagers, and he has a passion for basketball. I’m very excited to have him back in the ranks as our Head Coach. He helped to bring Eagles basketball to small school prominence while a Team Captain and All League player for this team, and I look forward to him doing it now as a Coach! It’s neat to have a piece of the past basketball glory days at this school leading the way now.”
Coach Brogdon joins the Eagles from Biola University. His most recent coaching position was Assistant Varsity and Head Junior Varsity Coach for CVCS. Although he did not coach last year, he spent the season around the game six nights a week as an official with the Southern Orange County Basketball Officials Association. This was his fourth season as an official. He is currently employed as the Biola University Intramural Athletic Program Director where he will graduate with honors in May with a major in Biblical Studies and a minor in Psychology.
His most recent basketball experience includes two tours playing in Eastern Europe with Athletes in Action in 2006 and 2008, a division of Campus Crusade. Coach Brogdon is returning to his alma mater where as captain and All Academy League Point Guard, he led the CVCS varsity team to a League Championship.
Coach Brogdon says, “I’m excited about the opportunity to return to my alma mater to teach the game of basketball. My goal is to challenge my players to be Christian leaders on and off the court. My hope is they will grow as basketball players, but more importantly as young men of God.”
Dr. Dave Baker, Head of Schools says: “I am excited to see alumni return to the school and give back to the ministry that provided them with a meaningful Christian Education experience. Zach Brogdon is an excellent basketball coach. He has played internationally, been a high school official, and coached our junior varsity team. He has proven to be a coach that cares for his players and desires for them to be successful on the court and in the classroom. I believe his mentorship will help each player to grow their relationship with Jesus Christ. The basketball program will be in great hands with Zach in charge.”
Dr. Terry Gaunt, High School Principal says: “It is with pleasure that we welcome Coach Zach Brogdon "back" to Capistrano Valley Christian High School. Zach is an alumnus and 2006 graduate of CVCS. While a student here, Zach was an outstanding basketball player, excellent academic student, and a man of distinguished and godly character who earned multiple honors and awards in every area. Zach's approach to the game of basketball is full of passion and desire not only for himself to enjoy but more-so for the Christian character building benefit of his student-athletes. While Zach was our JV boys basketball coach in 2008-09, it was evident each of the players were not only growing in basketball knowledge and skill, but how to become men of God. It is an honor to have Coach Zach Brogdon as a member of our CVCS staff.”
