9/29/09 EAGLES SHOW IMPROVEMENT AT MILE SQUARE PARK
The CVCS harriers competed for the first time in the WAC at Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley. It was beautiful setting for our second meet of the season, although it was very warm (in the 90’s). In spite of the heat, eight of the qualified runners ran new personal bests for the season. Setting new PRs of about 30 seconds were Colin Beveridge (21:37), James Akita (24:14, and Kenny Reyes (27:39). Setting PRs of about a minute were Tyler Creeden (22:32), Connor Castillo (19:31), and Bryan Larson (27:57). Josh Tari improved his time by a minute and a half to 22:01 and Aron Porras improved his first time by 2:45 to 18:20, finishing 7th in the race. The Eagles will be looking to improve on their 5th place finish in this first league meet as they compete in 3 more WAC meets with an eye for the CIF playoffs.
9/22/09 CROSS COUNTRY IS ON THE ROAD AGAIN! by Coach Easter
CVCS Eagle harriers began their season with a hot baptism of fire in Moreno Valley on Saturday, September 19th at the Grant-Nunnalley. This meet included state meet regulars Woodcrest Christian and Maranatha, as well as large public schools Twentynine Palms and Perris. It was a hot day and held on a hilly and sandy course. However, it was a day of significant improvement and experience. The returners from last year’s team had significantly improved times over last year, improving by an average of over two minutes over their times from last year on the course. In fact, most were improvements over their bests times last year. Connor Castillo led the returning Eagles with a time of 20:24 followed Colin Beveridge (22:09), Josh Tari (23:30), Tyler Creeden (23:39), and James Akita (24:45).
This year’s team also includes seven new members, five of which participated in this first meet. For many of these, it was their first race ever and a true learning experience of the difference between practice and competition. The group was led by Aron Porras with 21:05, followed by Mike Drzymkowski with 26:56. In the frosh-soph race Courtland Sherritt led with 27:29 followed by Kenny Reyes (28:08) and Bryan Larson (28:50).
The team will now work to improve on this as the season progresses. The trip to this improvement begins at Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley on September 24th. It will represent the first official competition of the cross country team in the new San Joaquin League. Stay tuned as this team grows physically, socially, and spiritually.
