DON EASTER BIOGRAPHY
Mr. Easter was the head cross country coach when CVCS initiated cross country in 1984 when joining the Olympic League. He has been actively involved in the cross country program as coach and/or meet manager to the present time. He has taken two boys teams and three girls team to the CIF Preliminaries during that time, taking two individuals to the finals. He has also coached track for many of these years, taking several individuals to the CIF preliminaries and three to the CIF Finals.
Mr. Easter’s philosophy can be found in Matthew 25:14-30. Each athlete is given a talent, and it is the athlete’s opportunity and responsibility to develop that talent to its maximum potential. It gives encouragement to those who are not blessed with great speed to work to improve on what God has blessed them with. It also challenges those who are greatly blessed with athletic talent to push themselves to improve themselves so matter what the nature of the opposition is. What you do with God’s gift if your gift to Him!
Cross country goals include: developing your talent to the maximum for the glory of the Lord, developing lifelong relationships with teammates, and beginning a lifestyle of fitness and health. Any championships or awards are all a by-product of these goals.
Mr. Easter has been a teacher on the CVCS faculty since 1976. Currently he is teaching high school science and math courses including Chemistry, AP Chemistry, Physics, and AP Calculus. He has coached several sports during his time here at CVCS including junior high basketball, junior high slow pitch softball, junior high flag football, junior high soccer, as well as JV and frosh-soph girl’s basketball, track, and of course, cross country.
Mr. Easter is a runner himself, having logged over thirty thousand miles in his life. He was completed over 12 marathons with a personal best of 3:12.04. He also has personal bests in the 10K and half marathon of 38:20 and 1:25.07 respectively.
