Coach Bio - Bruce Sanborn

Mr. Sanborn was first asked to minister here at CVCS in the '00-'01 school year as Head Coach of JV Boys Basketball. He then Head Coached the Jr. High softball team to a 6-1 record. In the '01-'02 year he helped the high school add girls tennis to the athletic program as Varsity Head Coach, then began year round assisting in varsity softball and basketball, bringing his emphasis on the fundamentals, strategy, and the mental game.  He is a parent/alum as his oldest daughter attended 6th-12th grade here at CVCS.  He continues to be a big supporter of the Performing Arts Dept. and even served as a "deputy" A.D. for a brief time.  He and his wife Dianne also provide a room in their home for CVCS' international students.

Coach Sanborn is a 1971 graduate of USC, an Eagle Scout, and attends Ocean Hills Church where he sometimes leads Bible Study classes.  He oversees the family business while volunteering his time and resources year round at the high school in the afternoons and evenings.  In the community, he has been YMCA Indian Princess Nation Chief and Nation Medicine Man.  He founded the "Champs" which is a softball team for mentally challenged girls(his youngest daughter is a Champ). He also coached community ASA youth softball teams to several tournament championships in Orange and San Diego counties, co-founded a youth ASA travel team, and established and coached adult softball and basketball teams in church leagues. In 2002, Mr. Sanborn was a finalist for Laguna Niguel Citizen of the Year.

At USC, Coach Sanborn lettered on the frosh tennis team, then was a Varsity walkon, and then a graduate manager.  He was the Head Tennis Instructor for the City of West Covina Recreation and Parks Dept. as a summer job during college.

His high school coaching highlights include:  as St.Margarets Head JV softball coach--upset win over Aliso Niguel;  as St. Margarets interim Head Varsity softball coach--a 3-1 record and an upset win over a #1 seed in the '00 Div. Five CIF playoffs; as Head Tennis Coach at CVCS--three time Academy League Coach of the Year; one League team championship;  two League individual singles champions; one League individual doubles champion; coached players in CIF Sectionals.
