Before joining CVCS in 2017, Chris has served as a coach for Mayfair High School, Bellflower High School, and Orange Lutheran High School. Coach Childress's greatest strength is in skill development, mentorship, and creating opportunities for his student-athletes.
Coach Childress started his official coaching career in 2010 to educate student-athletes on the overwhelming process of becoming college athletes. It turned into a passion for developing youth through sports. Basketball is only a vessel that he uses to build up men and enhance their relationship with God. He is dedicated to bridging the gap between sports and faith while maintaining a championship mentality here at CVCS.
Coach Childress has been a landmark hire for CVCS. He established the basketball program as an elite program in all of Orange County. In four short years, the basketball program has been a top 10 program in Orange County. They won the school's first-ever CIF Championship in basketball, created a partnership with the Nike brand, and developed opportunities for our student-athletes to further their athletic careers at four-year universities. Coach Childress has made a home here at CVCS while creating a unique culture for boys basketball. The program has implemented "The Brotherhood" in its program directive. The motto incorporates "Lead Yourself!, Serve Others!, Be Great!" It has become a staple here on the campus of CVCS!
When Coach Childress isn't teaching the game of basketball, mentoring his players, or checking on their grades, he enjoys spending time with his beautiful family. Chris is thankful for his wife (Michelle) and daughters (Chloe, Camryn, Cassidy) for allowing him to live out his dream as a basketball coach.
