Janis Slinkard
Janis Slinkard was born and raised in Manhattan Beach, California where she gained appreciation for the ocean and environment. Janis has 32 years of classroom experience, and seven have been at CVCS teaching AP Environmental Science, Ecology-Oceanography and AP Psychology. She has a passion for teaching and investing in the lives of her students.
Janis appreciates the individuality and uniqueness of how God created each of her students. Sharing God’s word and her faith are integrated into her lessons as she encourages students to pursue God’s plans for their lives. She loves that at CVCS she has the encouragement and opportunity to know her students personally and thoroughly enjoys spending time with them. A goal Janis has in teaching is to challenge her wonderful students to be “thinkers” and make meaningful connections as they explore, engage and problem solve.
Janis attended San Diego State University and Long Beach State University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Teaching Credential in Secondary Education with a concentration in Geoscience. She earned a Masters of Education in Science Instruction and Curriculum from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. She continues to pursue excellence in teaching, and in 2019 was nominated for Orange County Top teacher of the Year.
Janis and her husband live in Laguna Beach where they love to entertain their two married sons’ families and their wonderful friends. They love to travel and go on many adventures.
