Stephanie McDowell received a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Vanguard University (‘99) and a Master’s Degree in Education with an emphasis on Cross Cultural Teaching from National University (‘01). Stephanie graduated summa cum laude from VU. She received her first teaching job at Estancia High School in Costa Mesa and taught there for five years before becoming a stay-at-home mom.
While staying at home and raising her three children (Scottie, Shauna, and Shane), she tutored math at CVCS and other local high schools for 13 years while her husband Sean was the Bible Dept. Chair at CVCS for a decade.
Stephanie was hired at CVCS in 2017 and continues to love teaching Algebra 1, Algebra 2 (Regular and Honors), and Intermediate Algebra 2. One of her favorite parts of teaching is seeing students grasp mathematical concepts that seemed daunting at first and then to see students progress to be able to take those concepts and explain them back to their peers. Another one of Stephanie’s greatest joys in teaching is building confidence in student’s abilities. In class students play a game called, “Coach/Mathlete” which helps build confidence while practicing several math problems up at the white board.
Stephanie loves athletics. She played college basketball on a scholarship at Vanguard University. She was an assistant coach at VU for 2 years. Stephanie has also coached varsity basketball, jr. high boys’ and girls’ basketball and jr. high girls’ volleyball.
Stephanie became a Christian in the 6th grade. She attends South Shores Church in Dana Point and has hosted a Bible Study out of her home for 17 years. She is grateful to the Lord for His love and mercy and is especially thankful to Jesus for giving her such an amazing husband! Stephanie and her husband were high school sweethearts and now live in San Juan Capistrano.
