The 529 plan is a tax-advantaged account that allows families to save for educational expenses. It is an educational savings plan that can be used for qualified higher educational costs with contributions made on an after-tax basis and allows earnings to grow tax-free when used for educational expenses.

We're pleased to announce a new provision in the tax bill that expands the use of the 529 plan. Under this change, families can now withdraw up to $10,000 per year per child to pay for private or religious school tuition and still enjoy the same tax benefits.
