Paul Rivera (class of '14)
Dear Dr. Sipus and Dr. Gaunt,
I wanted to send both of you a formal email thanking you for helping me achieve my dreams of receiving an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point. I can’t thank both of you enough for everything you provided me at CVCS. The opportunity that CVCS gave me in life is something I cannot place into words. Ever since I was a little kid, I had aspirations of serving my country and attending West Point. I knew this was not going to be easy, so as a joint decision with my family, we decided it was best for me to transfer schools and attend CVCS for academics and athletics, even knowing the commute would be brutal. [He commuted every day from Riverside.]
This turned out to be one of my greatest decisions, if not greatest decision I have ever made in my life. I met wonderful people that helped me achieve success and also helped me become a better person. Many teachers helped me at this school, but the people who left an imprint on me, and the ones I would like to recognize are Mr. Butler, Mrs. Utley, Mr. Curammeng, Mr. Bond, Ms. Julie, Mrs. Zamora, Dr. Sipus, and Dr. Gaunt.
Their classes taught me the importance of hard work, ethics, discipline, integrity, and commitment which I will always carry with me in my life. Along with these wonderful teachers were Coach Dodd and Coach Preszler, who taught qualities such as how to become a good and strong man. Coach Dodd and Coach Preszler ultimately opened the doors for me to enter West Point through the West Point sprint football program.
CVCS never closed any doors on me and offered me many opportunities. I know CVCS deserves far greater thanks than this email, but I thought I should let you all know that I would not be where I am today if it were not for CVCS.
