CVCS Selects James Walker as the New High School Principal

Mr. Walker earned a Bachelor of Arts in History with an Education Studies minor at UCLA, and later completed his Master's Degree in Educational Leadership at UCLA’s Principal Leadership Institute. Before transferring to UCLA, Mr. Walker attended the University of Washington as a walk-on football player. He completed his teacher credentialing program at Vanguard University.

Mr. Walker has served in a number of critical leadership capacities at Whittier Christian High School since 2011, most recently as the Director of Academics and Technology. He has also served as Educational Technologist, Service Learning Coordinator, and History Teacher. He founded the business and entrepreneurship program at Whittier Christian, as well as academies for Biomedics, Engineering, Fine Arts, and Leadership. He is also an adjunct professor at Vanguard University for the Teaching Credential Program where he teaches classes on technology integration, assessment, and student and parent engagement in the learning process. In 2019 he founded The Digital Family, a six-part online course for schools and churches to equip families for healthy digital engagement.

Mr. Walker believes that learning happens most effectively in the context of relationships and is highly respected in his community. “James Walker is one of the finest leaders I have had the privilege of working with in my 21-year career in Christian education. He is a talented leader and will be dearly missed here at WCHS,” said Whittier Christian Head of School Carl Martinez.

“James Walker was selected from one of the strongest candidate pools I have ever experienced,” said CVCS Head of School Chris Rutz, “He is a man of outstanding Christian faith and character who will make an immediate impact on the quality of our learning environment. Students and teachers will love what he brings to CVCS, and I could not be more excited for the future of our high school.”

James and his wife, Karla, have three children, Autumn (4), Juniper (3), and Santiago (1). They speak Spanish at home and spend every available moment enjoying a variety of outdoor activities, especially surfing. He will finish this school year at Whittier Christian and assume his duties on July 1. Please welcome the Walker family to the CVCS community!
