Eagles' furious rally falls just short in CIF Playoffs!

Your varsity football team (9 - 2) put on a furious second half rally, only to fall short, 42 - 35, to the Loara Saxons (8 - 3) in the first round of the CIF Southern Sections playoffs!

Quarterback Tyler Henry, despite being hampered by a 1st play of the game injury to his knee, led the second half rally as he completed 10 of 13 passes in the second half, (seven in a row at one point) as the Eagles battled to the end against a potent Saxon offensive attack. Henry finished the game with 17 completions on 26 attempts for 254 yards, along with two td passes and 1 rushing touchdown. Seth Yu and Simeon Marton were unstoppable as the Eagles clawed their way back from a 3rd quarter deficit of 42 to 21. Yu rushed for 151 yards on 19 carries while adding 2 touchdowns to his team leading total of 23 touchdowns on the year. Marton was nothing short of spectacular as he hauled in 11 receptions for 180 yards and one touchdown to add to his team leading total for the year of 52 receptions for 891 yards and 9 touchdowns. The offense racked up 462 yards as the Eagles kept the Saxons off balance and the crowd on their feet throughout the hard fought contest!

Jacob Hazzard had his best game of the year as he broke up several long passes while also coming up with numerous tackles on defense and special teams. Hazzard added 54 yards to the teams total yardage with two big kickoff returns.

Your Eagles captured their first 11 man football championship since the year 2000 and honored God with their attitude, effort, character, and spirit throughout the year!

Thank you to all who supported this exciting team throughout the year!

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! - Philippians 4:4

Varsity Football - League Champs! CIF this Friday vs. Loara @ Tesoro HS - 7 pm

Your varsity football team completed an undefeated league season (4 - 0) by defeating Trinity Classical Academy, 31 to 12, in last Friday night's homecoming and senior night game. The Eagles finished the regular season with a 9 - 1 record and await the brackets for the upcoming CIF playoffs that begin this week!

The Eagle defense, led by defensive coordinator, Chi Chi Biehn, executed an outstanding game plan as they shut down the prolific passing attack of Trinity Classical. Seth Yu had two interceptions, one being a 57 yard "pick six", to put the Eagles up, 17 to 6, early in the third quarter and opened up the flood gates for the offense to overwhelm the Knights in the second half. The defensive front of Josh Sears, James Porrello, Khalil Peterson, Jack Roberts, and Christian Harris harrassed the Trinity offense throughout the evening as they forced the Knights into numerous errant throws. Trey Henry broke up several long passes as he returns to form after suffering a knee injury earlier in the season.

The offense struggled early, however, they put together a clutch drive at the end of the first half to score with :05 seconds left to turn the momentum of the game and put the Eagles up, 10 - 6, at halftime. Tyler Henry hit Trey Henry in the corner of the end zone on a 10 yard scoring strike to put CVCS up for good in this league championship game!

In the second half, Yu busted through for a 30 yard touchdown run to put the Eagles up 24 - 6, and Tyler Henry (6 of 11 for 93 yards and 2 td passes) completed a beautiful 30 yard fade route to his favorite receiver, Simeon Marton, to up the score to 31 - 6.

The Eagles are opening up the CIF playoffs vs. Loara (Anaheim) at Tesoro High School on Friday night, November 2 at 7 pm. Loara (7 - 3) is the 2nd place team from the Garden Grove League and are led by veteran head coach, Mitch Olson.
