Spiritual Life
- Bible - Students learn about God’s plan for creation, redemption, and salvation through Jesus Christ. Students explore nine core biblical narrative units starting with “Water into Wine” and including key New Testament stories like the Prodigal Son and Mars Hill. They also cover six in-depth inductive study units of Epistles (Romans through 2 Peter), offering a comprehensive year of theology, apologetics, and worldview formation.
- Chapel - Students attend chapel weekly in a lively and powerful worship environment. They are exposed to Biblical principles and stories through weekly speakers.
- Scripture Memorization - Students are expected to memorize one verse a week that aligns with our Deep Roots Bible curriculum.
Academic
- Language Arts:
- Reading Fluency - Students read grade-level text with accuracy, appropriate rate, and expression to support comprehension. Students are expected to self-correct when needed, use punctuation cues for phrasing, and reread as necessary to clarify meaning and build confidence.
- Reading Comprehension - Students focus on analyzing literary and informational texts by identifying themes, main ideas, supporting details, and text structures. Students are expected to make inferences, cite textual evidence, compare texts, and understand how authors develop ideas and use language to convey meaning.
- Language Usage - Students are expected to demonstrate command of standard English conventions, using appropriate grammar (e.g., pronouns, progressive tenses, modals), correct sentence structure (complete sentences, prepositional phrases), and accurate capitalization, punctuation, and spelling—including commas and quotation marks in compound sentences and dialogue. They also learn to choose precise vocabulary and punctuation based on context, recognize formal vs. informal language, and understand figurative language, idioms, synonyms, antonyms, and academic/domain-specific terms .
- Writing - Students are expected to write three main types of texts—opinion pieces, informative/explanatory essays, and narratives—each with clear structure, supporting details, transitions, precise language, and a fitting conclusion. They are also expected to plan, revise, and edit their work (with guidance), use technology to compose and publish at least a one-page document, and conduct short research projects that draw on evidence from multiple sources.
- Listening and Speaking - Students are expected to engage in effective oral communication, including participating in structured discussions by posing and responding to questions, paraphrasing content, and evaluating others’ ideas and evidence. They also plan and deliver clear presentations—such as narratives or reports—using relevant details, appropriate pacing, and formal English when required, and enhance presentations with audio or visual elements when appropriate.
- Mathematics - Students understand and apply ratios, rates, and percentages, as well as extend their knowledge of multiplication and division to include fractions and decimals. Students also explore expressions, equations, and statistical thinking while developing a deeper understanding of number systems and geometry.
- Social Studies - Students explore World History and Geography. By studying Ancient Civilizations, students analyze the geographic, political, economic, religious, and social structures of early societies such as Mesopotamia, Egypt, Kush, Ancient Hebrews, Greece, and Rome.
- Science - Students study God’s creation through hands-on, inquiry based learning across four key areas: life science, earth and space science, physical science, and the human body. Students explore topics such as cell processes, the periodic table of elements, fluid, motion, rock records, and astronomy all while developing observation, classification, and experimentation skills with a biblical worldview that emphasizes God as the Creator and sustainer of life.
- Cursive Handwriting - Students learn correct cursive letter and number formations from daily, systematic practice.
- Physical Education - Students refine motor skills through more complex physical activities, including team sports, dance, and fitness routines. Students also learn about the importance of regular physical activity, setting personal fitness goals, and demonstrating teamwork, cooperation, and good sportsmanship while modeling Christ-like behavior during games and activities.
- Music - Students explore and enjoy music by reading and performing basic musical notation, including rhythm, pitch, and dynamics, through singing, playing instruments, and movement. Students also explore musical elements by listening, analyzing, and responding to various styles and cultures, fostering creativity and appreciation for music, all while using their voices and bodies to worship God.
- Art - Students expand their creativity and skill by developing skills in drawing, painting, and using various materials to create original artworks. Students also learn to describe and analyze art, explore cultural and historical contexts, and express personal ideas through visual art, while developing an appreciation of God’s creativity and design.
- Spanish - Students develop basic communication skills by engaging in simple conversations, interpreting familiar spoken and written texts, and presenting information about everyday topics like family, school, food, and daily routines. They also explore the cultures of Spanish-speaking countries, recognizing cultural practices, traditions, and geography to build global awareness and cross-cultural understanding.
